Exploring the South: Charleston, SC

Happy almost August! So this is a very exciting blog entry for me and I hope for you too! For one, it was a trip I took back in March with LB who has now been gone almost 60 days & I miss her dearly but in the last 3 hours over 137 texts we have made plans for another 4-5 trips next year so not everything is awful (Hang around to find out if any of them will actually take place). Second, this was the beginning of my "blogging/instagram/I like to travel/take photos and write" so I am very excited to share the details of this trip with you. I had also previously written this as an itinerary so I think to mix things up, I will leave it as such and just insert my commentary every now and then... Here it goes: Arrive in CHS ( I love Jetblue, what's your airline of choice? We arrived at 8:43 am because who does not love 7 am flights?) Upon arrival we headed to Holiday Inn Charleston-Riverview. We were there during renovation but honestly it did not bother us much, ...

Labor Day getaway 2012: Hudson Valley and Thousand Islands

Happy Summer! Hopefully you keeping yourself cool with AC & tons of ice cream this weekend as the temps climb into what feels 116. I feel another really long post coming up so I'll get straight to it. First few interesting facts about this post: - This trip took place before Google maps app existed - All photos taken with Nikon CoolPix - All photos are unfiltered Real copy of Google Maps printed out I was recently talking to a friend of mine (who btw has the cutest 6 months old baby boy ever!) who was looking for an overnight getaway. Of course right away I started texting her thousand of ideas I have and then remembered a trip I took to Hudson Valley. I absolutely love love love Hudson Valley, it's just close enough to the city but far enough to count as a getaway. Thinking back I've visited Hudson Valley multiple times but this particular one came to mind. All I could remember at that moment was The Walkway over Hudson but as I dug through my old emails, p...

The rest of 2002 & 2003

"What I like about photographs is that they capture a moment that’s gone forever, impossible to reproduce. ” -    Karl Lagerfeld Happy Tuesday! If you live on the East Coast you know that this weekend was finally gorgeous 🌻. I hope you took that chance to explore the outdoors a little and if you did not, I totally support day indoors on the couch watching Mad Men. Have you seen? I highly recommend. However we are not here to talk about that.  We are here to talk about something I realized this morning, more accurate something I always knew and it just became clearer. Photographs pick up the slack where our memory fails. It would be impossible to remember moments from 17 years ago but when looking back at my albums they refreshed my memory making me remember where I've been and what I've done. Without that it would be lost never to be remembered again.  If you read my last entry (if you did not, you most certainly should) you know that we are in the year 2002. ...

Miami Beach FL, way way back when

Actually back in 2002. My first trip as an adult was Miami Beach, FL. Funny side note as I write about my first trip to Florida, I realize my last trip this past March was also to Florida. Coincidence? A sign? True destiny? What do you all think? Back to Miami: I can assure you Miami Beach in 2002 was very different than it is now. I haven't been in quiet some time but I can only imagine, that and well I've heard things. I went there with PS (as in initials not Postscript) and we had a great time, at least that's what my photos say. I still remember where we stayed although again I am pretty sure it has been remodeled plenty. If you are looking to spend less than $$$$ and don't mind staying further up (all the way up up up) on infamous Collins Ave then Holiday Inn is right for you https://www.ihg.com/holidayinn/hotels/us/en/miami-beach/miamb/hoteldetail 3.5 Star hotel with over 2300 reviews on Trip Advisor  https://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g34439-d80247-Revi...

Finally Day 2

What can I say?! I've totally abandoned my writing and had turned to baking but during few moments of clarity, I realize that it would be totally amazing to document my travels and write down all the awesome and not so awesome places I have visited. Speaking of not to awesome, the very first thing on our agenda in Newport was a scenic train ride. I've always wanted to go on one and on one we went... Boooring!!! We then headed to Fort Adams which was I guess somewhat cool, not worth the trip but an intersting detour. The coolest thing about Fort Adams is that right from it you can continue on to the coolest drive ever along the ocean? lake? body of water! Pass the sign for Brenton Point State Park and continue on the windy road. You won't be sorry. Make sure you got cool song on the radio, your shades and don't look back. On our drive we stumbled upon Castle Hill Inn and lighthouse http://www.lighthouse.cc/castlehill/index.html , which is a MUST SEE ! After...

Filthy rich and starving, Day 1

It's been 166 days since my last 3 days trip (not to be confused with the amount of time passed since my last getaway). What can I say, I have been busy... mostly with baking cupcakes, watching bad movies on Saturday nights, cuddling on Sunday mornings and teaching baby K how to speak... but in a heartbeat, I gave that all up (except for cuddling, that came with me) and set out on a 3 day journey through CT and RI. Having left a day later then planned, we quickly crossed the slums of Queens and ended up in suburbs of CT. The familiar hour and a half drive brought on nothing but the constant fumbling with the radio buttons and obsession over my newly acquired Iphone. That quickly stopped as we entered the town of Greenwich, CT. Neither OK or I are fans of suburban life, white picket fences and/or soccer moms but WOW! these mansio.... errrr.. excuse me homes, are definitely worth checking out and are certainly something to be desired. Our first stop was the Dunn...

CT trip - Day 2

There is just something nutty about new things... it just has this amazing way of drawing you in. Showering after an hour long zumba class and getting more then 5 hours of sleep just doesn't seem all that important anymore. As you get closer to your new object of interest, your breathing gets heavy, your palms get sweaty and you know just few more minutes and its yours... You crave it, you need it... you see it everywhere you go... Ahem, talk about addiction, ha! But enough about that, let me tell you about the 2nd day of my Labor Day getaway. By the way, in case you were wondering, the name of the restaurant we ate at still remains unknown. So while someone, let's call him OK (no, those really are his initials) was snoozing away, I did a little digging on the computer and came upon a group of islands. If you know anything about a group of islands and small fishing towns that strive on tourism, you can probably guess that the only way to see those islands is a boat tour ...

CT trip - Day 1

CLICK ME  - This song is a perfect way to begin this entry as I predict I will be obsessing over it for the duration of my next trip.   But let’s not get ahead of ourselves just yet.   Let me first tell you about my last trip. Theme:   Abandoned Connecticut, Song:   Britney Spears, “I wanna go” (don’t judge me!) Duration: 2 days The whole point of this trip was to see the antique car show at Lime Rock, CT ( http://www.limerock.com/ ) and of course spend some time with someone. Well you’ll be somewhat happy to know that the that someone did not disappoint but Lime Rock sure did. Don’t get me wrong, the cars were SICK but maybe it was the muggy weather, maybe the fact that we took Rt 7 and stopped off to take pictures on our way or the fact that they had no ketchup to go with their surprisingly delicious hot dogs, but something was not working there. Long story short we got there when the actual event was over and only got to see the winning cars. I feel...
